History

An ancient village church

The church of St John the Baptist was originally dedicated to God and St Alban. It is an ancient stone building in the Early English style, with a chancel, nave and embattled western tower containing five bells. The church was formerly a possession of St Albans Abbey. Some portions appear to date from the reign of Richard II and others from Edward III. It was restored in 1880 under the direction of Sir George Gilbert Scott.
