Coronation Meadow Project
A local green space
Granborough Parish Council leases the 1.5-acre meadow at the end of Church Lane from the Oxford Diocese. Part of the land contains the playground. In line with the Neighbourhood Plan, the aim is to create a local green space for villagers and wildlife.
After more than 20 years lying fallow, the meadow was overgrown and little used. Volunteers removed tree suckers, brambles and invasive non-native plants, beginning its transformation into a welcoming public space.
May 2022 Update
Ponds, paths and wildflowers
Two ponds were sculpted in April 2022. A land drain connects the larger upper pond to the lower pond below the playground. Areas formerly dominated by brambles were prepared for wildflower sowing, with further areas created near the entrance, Denham View boundary and playground fence.
A general-purpose meadow seed mixture was sown and three benches were planned overlooking the ponds. A noticeboard would provide safety information and details of wildlife in the meadow.
September 2023 Update
The meadow develops
Marginal plants and donated water lilies became established in the upper pond. Further wildflower areas were planned and work was arranged to line the lower pond.
Keeping paths accessible is important, particularly for less active visitors, so the Council considered adding perimeter path maintenance to the regular village grass-cutting schedule.
